Application
Surfaces
Mineral wool or expanded polystyrene with a reinforced base render comprising an 8 mm layer of Alfix DuraPuds 810. The layer of render must have been allowed to dry for at least 2 days.
Cement-based boards such as Aquapanel or Powerpanel, with reinforcement render comprising an 4 mm layer of Alfix DuraPuds 804. The layer of render must have been allowed to dry for at least 2 days.
Masonry: before rendering, masonry must be allowed to dry and harden completely.
Concrete: 14 days, max. 90% RH.
Lightweight concrete elements: max. moisture content 8% by weight.
Aerated concrete: the surface must be dry, without showing signs of moisture accumulation. All joins must be closed and sealed. Fill in any areas of flaking and any hollows before rendering. Fill in any recessed joins with a thin layer of DuraPuds 804, mixed using a minimum of water. Leave to dry until the following day before continuing treatment.
For further information, please consult our Technical Services Dept.
Surface preparation
The surface must be clean and sound, and all dust, loose mortar, grease, salt, fouling and other contamination must have been removed. Strongly absorbent surfaces – aerated concrete, for example – must be primed using Alfix PlaneMixPrimer diluted with water in a ratio of 1:6.
How to use
Mix using approximately 4.0–4.5 litres of clean, cold water per 20 kg bag. Pour the water into a clean container and sprinkle in the powder while stirring strongly until the mixture reaches a uniform consistency without lumps. The render is ready for use in a couple of minutes.
Reinforcement and final render on aerated concrete and cement-based boards
Outdoors on aerated concrete, apply a reinforcement layer of Alfix DuraPuds 804 as a 2-layer application. On the first day, fit Alfix corner fillet and Alfix bottom fillet basic elements in Alfix DuraPuds 804. Then use a steel float to apply the render to the surface in a covering layer approx. 4 mm thick. Push Alfix 4x4 mm fibreglass mesh into the wet render. There should be an overlap of at least 10 cm where the mesh joins. Use a flat trowel to press the mesh gently onto the wet render. Reinforce areas around openings and folds with extra pieces of reinforcement mesh. Wait at least a day before applying a final layer of Alfix
DuraPuds 804 to a thickness of 1–2 mm.
Final render
Use a steel float to apply a thin layer of Alfix DuraPuds 804. When the render is touch dry, rub down the surface with a moist sponge or floating trowel to produce a fully covering and uniform result. In order to avoid join marks, make sure to finish the entire wall surface in a single work process.
NB!
Additional water should not be added to a mixture already starting to set.
When using coloured finishing render, consistent water dosage and even final smoothing are crucial factors in order to obtain a good result.
Exterior use should only take place in dry weather at temperatures from +5°C - +25°C. Avoid direct sunlight.
If rainy weather or temperatures below +5°C are forecast, cover surfaces.
Avoid exterior rendering during winter.
Cleaning
Clean residues from tools with water before the mortar sets. Cement-based products harden when mixed with water, hence do not dispose of excess material by pouring into drainage system.
